U11 Blacks Match Report vs St Fagans

Writer's picture: David JDavid J

A slightly disappointing day at the office today and a tale of what might have been; the Blacks ended up losing to St Fagans by 43 runs.

Batting first against St Fagans, Cowbridge were restricted to only 225, as the defensive batting challenges continued. All bar one of the team gave up their wicket and so special mention must go to Tilly D, who top-scored with 8, including a magnificent cut-shot four. Running between the wickets was a positive that can be taken into the next match.

The team did not make their usual fast start in the field, with no wickets taken in the first six overs. Perhaps it was the two-week break, but the fielding was just not as sharp as usual. The bobbling ball became infectious and, along with a couple of missed catching opportunities, meant the team just didn’t seem in the game. Then, from nowhere, a flurry of wickets! Ed J (3), Osian D (2) and George M (2), along with a sharply taken stumping, brought a little belief to the team. With four overs remaining, Cowbridge found themselves trailing by just 9 runs and St Fagans were wobbling. But it was not meant to be. A very powerful batting performance from one of the final pair made the game safe, and the final result (268 vs 225) was a little flattering.

I’m sure many of the team will be disappointed tonight, but based on the data, they should not fear any opponent.
